November 2006

Greetings, all. We're writing songs and keeping happy, especially with the formerly under-used---now more often-used---upright Mason & Hamlin sitting in the living room. Pianos are beautiful things. Thanks to everyone who came out to the last show at Pete's.

December 2005

Que Verde made it onto a discerning top 10 list in the Big Takeover. Check it out here.

Also, Christine has started to write music reviews. You can read them at www.culturecatch.com.

The recording that was supposed to take place this past summer will purportedly happen, at least in part, in the intervening winter months. We have a handful of new songs that we're genuinely excited about sharing. The idea is to head to rural Maryland, spend time with grandma, and record in her basement, unbeknownst to the trees and frozen rose bushes outdoors.

Cheers all.

May 2005

The last week of April was spent in Portland, OR, during which time we made a brief visit up to Olympia, Washington to play some songs on KAOS, Olympia Community Radio at Evergreen State College. We had a very pleasant time. The radio show, Radio8Ball, was a fun and zany session of call and response, talk and sing radio. You can visit the radio show's web space for more details and sound clips.

The month of May has been active and eventful, not especially on the musical front, though we did open the month with a show, and will bookend it as well with a show on the very last day—May 31st—at Pete's Candy Store in Williamsburg. Please stop by if you can.

Other than that, the summer looks like it'll be a fruitful time to record. Time (and timing) is everything, and it looks like we'll finally get some of that (time, that is) on our hands. We have our eyes on July.

Best to all, Christine

March 2005

We’re happy and in love…with a brand new guitar. After searching guitar shops in the city, we took a trip out to Staten Island to the tucked away, but brilliant Mandolin Brothers, a guitar shop filled with vintage and new and small builder acoustic guitars and mandolins. All the wood and the shapes and the tones—one could spend hours sitting and playing out the sound of wood and strings. After a few hours of playing Gibsons and Martins, I relied on the encyclopedic knowledge of Stan, the proprietor, to update me on the work of small builders, as opposed to the major makers like Gibson and Martin. And so another hour later we left the shop with a hand-made Avalon, born and raised in Northern Ireland. We’re very happy.

Come see us play our new instrument at our next show at the Knitting Factory. If we don’t sound good, well, it’s not the guitar’s fault.

Join us.

February 2005

We’re beginning to play a few more shows. While we’re happy to play for ourselves, to the rapt attention of walls and windows, ideally we want to be playing and sharing with you. So lend us your ears, in person.

That said, we’re playing at the Knitting Factory in March, so waken your friends and neighbors from their PBS specials and NetFlix-induced winter hibernations. They’ll feel better, I promise. Get out of the house, stretch your muscles, take the train to Franklin St., and enjoy the hum of music and people.

In the meanwhile, we’re enjoying the spurts of near frigid temperatures, hot oatmeal, and all the alternate side parking suspensions of recent months. Clearly, Brooklyn winter isn’t without its charms.

Happy New Year, January 2005

Sad endings, and hard beginnings, but the hope is in bright beginnings and happy endings at the end of the winding road. So kernels of brightness and happiness to all, despite any and all dismal surrounds.

Onward, we’re planning to head to D.C. sometime this month and/or next to record a few songs. We’re also in the midst of searching for the just-right acoustic guitar, as our old one is sounding like it’s reached retirement. While one instrument retires, however, there’s the welcome addition of a black mahogany ukelele to our small array of instruments, so wacky tunings and plunky strumming are underway.

We’re mulling over the idea of putting out an ep, or a series of eps, but we’re not sure when or how this will come to fruition. Meanwhile, though, recording is expected to begin in small doses this month, piano and guitars, and we hope to share the results with you sometime soon.

If not sooner, come say hello at the January show.
Otherwise, Happy New Year to You.
